Yale Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Career Development Center
(Currently all of our positions are filled; however, we will accept applications for future openings.)
The Yale Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Career Development Program in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences selects outstanding medical scientists – both novice and experienced – for advanced training in basic, translational, or clinical science under the guidance of skilled scientific mentors.
The Principal Investigator (PI), Charles J. Lockwood, MD, the Research Director (RD), Richard B. Hochberg, PhD, and the Scholar's WRHR Advisory Board monitor the scholar’s academic progress toward research independence. The PI, RD and Advisory Board are directly involved in the training, evaluation and academic development of each WRHR Scholar.
The Yale WRHR Center is part of the broader Yale Medical Center Program in Women’s Health.
WRHR Scholars enjoy:
- close relationships with mentors, outstanding scientists in fields related to Women’s Reproductive Health and experienced in career development
- departmental laboratory space with access to shared teaching and training cores
- 75% time and salary directly covered by the Program grant to help pursue career development
- research support for 2-5 years to underwrite costs while obtaining preliminary data and applying for grants
Core requirements of the Program include:
- training in basic lab techniques and molecular biology
- a didactic program, with instruction in responsible and ethical conduct of research, statistical and study design
Scholars enter the Department of Ob/Gyn as Assistant Professors, with appropriate office and support staff. Clinical duties and responsibilities relate directly to research interests. Career development spans two to five years, depending on the Scholar’s initial level of experience and particular training goals.
Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), The Yale WRHR Center aims to foster Scholars’ growth into established, independent investigators. Yale shall seek to retain as faculty Scholars who successfully complete an individualized training program at Yale and who have made significant progress toward independent funding.
